Acts 21:13

King James Version (1769)

13 Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray Paul's resolve as reckless fanaticism or a morbid pursuit of martyrdom, overlooking the context of prophetic confirmations and his Spirit-directed conviction after seeking counsel from multiple sources. Another error applies this passage to justify impulsive risks or defiance of wise advice today without similar divine leading, reducing it to a call for blind bravery rather than obedient surrender to God's will amid foreknown trials.

Truth

Paul expresses unyielding commitment to his divine mission, declaring his readiness not only to be bound but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus, despite the tearful warnings of his companions who foresee his suffering. This reveals the core truth of sacrificial obedience, where true discipleship prioritizes faithfulness to Christ above personal safety, emotional appeals, or earthly security, embodying the cost of following Jesus as seen throughout the New Testament.
