Daniel 5:12

King James Version (1769)

12 Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation of this passage is to view Daniel's abilities as merely exceptional human intellect or learned skills acquired through study, ignoring the repeated biblical emphasis on their divine origin as gifts from God to His prophet for specific redemptive purposes. Another error is applying it indiscriminately to endorse modern dream interpreters, psychics, or self-help gurus as possessing equivalent authority, detached from the context of God's sovereign judgment on Babylon and the prophetic role of discerning spirits through faith in Yahweh alone.

Truth

Daniel 5:12 reveals the queen mother's recognition of Daniel's extraordinary God-given gifts of wisdom, knowledge, and skill in interpreting dreams and unraveling mysteries, qualities that distinguished him in Babylon's court despite his exile. This underscores the core truth that God sovereignly equips His faithful servants with supernatural insight to fulfill His purposes, even among unbelievers, pointing to divine favor and the proclamation of heavenly truths amid earthly power and impending judgment.
