Daniel 7:1

King James Version (1769)

1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters.
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation dismisses the dream as mere psychological or subconscious imagery rather than a supernatural prophetic revelation from God, ignoring its connection to the apocalyptic visions of four beasts and the Ancient of Days that follow, which symbolize successive world empires leading to divine judgment; others err by conflating the timeline with Nebuchadnezzar’s era or later events, disrupting the precise chronological anchor that situates this vision before Babylon’s fall and aligns it with historical fulfillments.

Truth

Daniel 7:1 introduces the historical and prophetic context of a divine revelation given to Daniel during the first year of Belshazzar’s reign over Babylon, a time of imperial decline, where God communicates profound visions through dreams while Daniel sleeps, prompting him to record them meticulously for future understanding, underscoring the sovereignty of God who reveals mysteries of earthly kingdoms and His eternal kingdom amid human history.
