Deuteronomy 10:8

King James Version (1769)

8 At that time the Lord separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often include viewing the Levites' separation as conferring inherent superiority or a permanent ethnic exclusivity on them for all time, ignoring the New Testament's fulfillment in Christ's priesthood making all believers a holy priesthood; others erroneously see it as a model for rigid hierarchical clergy in modern churches or assume it was based on Levite merit rather than God's unmerited election amid Israel's rebellion, thus missing the emphasis on faithful obedience as the basis for privilege.

Truth

This passage reveals God's sovereign choice to set apart the tribe of Levi for sacred service, entrusting them with carrying the Ark of the Covenant symbolizing His presence, ministering directly before Him, and pronouncing blessings in His name, thereby establishing their perpetual role as mediators facilitating Israel's worship and relationship with God from that time onward.
