Deuteronomy 31:26

King James Version (1769)

26 Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation is assuming this verse elevates the written law to equality with God's presence in the Ark, implying human scripture rivals divine revelation, whereas it actually positions the law as subordinate testimony to the covenant terms; another error views it as proof the Mosaic Law binds Christians today without modification, overlooking New Testament fulfillment in Christ and the shift to grace through faith.

Truth

Moses instructs the Levites to place the Book of the Law beside the Ark of the Covenant, establishing it as a permanent witness against Israel if they disobey its commands, emphasizing the covenant's enduring authority, the seriousness of obedience, and the certainty of accountability before God for future generations.
