Deuteronomy 7:26

King James Version (1769)

26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often extend this command beyond idolatry to justify destroying any culturally offensive art, jewelry, or modern items like books or games deemed spiritually impure, ignoring the verse's specific context of rejecting Canaanite idols during Israel's inheritance of the Promised Land; others apply it superstitiously to claim household objects carry literal curses, promoting fear rather than discerning biblical warnings against worshiping false gods, or use it to enforce legalistic purity standards unrelated to heart allegiance to Yahweh.

Truth

God instructs the Israelites not to bring idolatrous abominations into their homes, as such objects would make them accursed like the idols themselves, emphasizing the need for complete separation from pagan practices through utter detestation and abhorrence to maintain covenant purity and holiness amid the conquest of Canaan.
