Deuteronomy 7:8

King James Version (1769)

8 But because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often arise when readers assume Israel's deliverance was due to their righteousness or moral superiority, reversing the text's emphasis on God's initiative despite their unworthiness; others erroneously apply it to justify ethnic or national exceptionalism today, ignoring the conditional aspects of covenant obedience elsewhere in Deuteronomy and the New Testament's extension of God's redemptive love to all peoples through faith in Christ, rather than bloodline alone.

Truth

This passage reveals the core truth that God's redemption of Israel from Egyptian bondage stemmed not from their own merits or greatness, but purely from His sovereign love and unwavering commitment to the oath sworn to their ancestors, demonstrating divine grace as the foundation of salvation and God's mighty power in fulfilling His promises, which echoes throughout Scripture as a model of unmerited favor and covenant faithfulness.
