Exodus 16:16

King James Version (1769)

16 This is the thing which the Lord hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray this command as endorsing unlimited abundance or prosperity through effort, ignoring that excess manna spoiled to prevent hoarding; others see it as promoting laziness since provision was uniform regardless of gathering amount, overlooking the required daily labor; or misconstrue it as a model for modern welfare systems or communism, missing its spiritual purpose of teaching faith in God's timely and measured sustenance amid wilderness dependence.

Truth

This passage reveals the core truth of God's faithful and equitable daily provision for His people through the manna, instructing each Israelite to gather exactly an omer per person in their household according to their eating needs, promoting trust in divine sufficiency, discouraging hoarding or waste, and instilling a rhythm of dependence on God renewed each day rather than self-reliance.
