Ezekiel 11:15

King James Version (1769)

15 Son of man, thy brethren, even thy brethren, the men of thy kindred, and all the house of Israel wholly, are they unto whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, Get you far from the Lord: unto us is this land given in possession.
Untruth

Common misinterpretations treat the passage as validating the Jerusalemites' territorial boasts or as evidence of God's abandonment of the exiles, ignoring the prophetic context where God affirms the exiles as His chosen and pronounces doom on Jerusalem's presumptuous sinners. Some erroneously apply it to justify modern land claims, ethnic superiority, or complacency in faith, overlooking its warning against assuming divine blessing based on ancestry or presence in the land rather than genuine obedience.

Truth

Ezekiel 11:15 reveals God's rebuke of the Jerusalemites' arrogant disdain for the Babylonian exiles, whom they dismissed as cut off from the Lord while claiming the land as their exclusive divine possession. The core truth is that God identifies the exiles—including Ezekiel's own kin—as His true people, overturning human judgments and emphasizing that divine favor rests on covenant faithfulness, not geographic location, as judgment looms over Jerusalem's unrepentant inhabitants and hope endures for the faithful remnant.
