Ezekiel 29:13

King James Version (1769)

13 Yet thus saith the Lord God; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered:
Untruth

A common misinterpretation treats this as a promise of full restoration to Egypt's former glory and dominance, overlooking the immediate context in verses 14-15 that explicitly states God will make them a base kingdom subservient to others; others erroneously apply it to modern geopolitical events or end-times prophecies without regard for its historical fulfillment around 568-525 BC during Persian conquests, or spiritualize it as universal redemption ignoring the specific national judgment pronounced earlier in the chapter.

Truth

This verse reveals God's sovereign mercy amid judgment on Egypt, promising to regather the scattered Egyptians after forty years of dispersion among the nations, restoring them to their land of Pathros in the south but deliberately limiting their status to a lowly kingdom that would never again exalt itself over other nations, underscoring divine control over history and the humility required in restoration.
