Ezekiel 30:18

King James Version (1769)

18 At Tehaphnehes also the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the yokes of Egypt: and the pomp of her strength shall cease in her: as for her, a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall go into captivity.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often include viewing the darkening day and covering cloud as literal astronomical events like eclipses predicting end-times scenarios rather than metaphorical language for sudden national disaster; treating the breaking of yokes as liberation for Israelites in Tahpanhes instead of judgment dismantling Egyptian dominance; allegorizing the pomp of strength as personal pride unrelated to geopolitical prophecy; or applying it out of historical context to modern political downfalls, ignoring its specific fulfillment in ancient invasions like those by Babylon or Persia that shattered Egypt's power.

Truth

This verse delivers God's prophetic judgment against the Egyptian city of Tahpanhes, a refuge for some Judeans, declaring that a day of darkness and calamity will come as the Lord breaks Egypt's oppressive yokes, ends the arrogant display of its power, envelops the city in a cloud symbolizing overwhelming gloom and defeat, and sends its surrounding villages into captivity, underscoring God's sovereignty in humbling proud empires that defy Him and affirming His control over nations as part of His redemptive plan for Israel.
