Ezra 7:28

King James Version (1769)

28 And hath extended mercy unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king’s mighty princes. And I was strengthened as the hand of the Lord my God was upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat this as a blueprint for personal success or gaining favor from worldly authorities through one's own merits, ignoring its specific historical role in God's sovereign plan for Israel's return from exile. Some reduce it to a prosperity promise or political maneuvering tactic, overlooking the emphasis on God's initiating mercy and strengthening hand as the sole source of boldness, which can lead to presumptuous expectations of favor without humble dependence on divine providence.

Truth

Ezra testifies to God's merciful favor extended to him before King Artaxerxes, his counselors, and mighty princes, which strengthened him through the divine hand upon him to gather Israel's chief men for the journey back to Jerusalem. This highlights God's providential empowerment in leadership, enabling faithful obedience to His call for restoration amid the post-exilic context, demonstrating that true strength for kingdom work flows from divine mercy and presence rather than human ability.
