Galatians 3:19

King James Version (1769)

19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation posits the law as eternal or superior to God's promise, ignoring its temporary role until Christ; others wrongly see it as causing sin rather than exposing it, or claim it opposes grace entirely, whereas Paul affirms it as a guardian leading to faith; additionally, some distort the angelic mediation to deem the law inferior or even malevolent, overlooking its holy purpose in God's redemptive plan.

Truth

Paul addresses the purpose of the Mosaic law, explaining it was added temporarily because of transgressions to reveal and restrain sin until the promised Seed—Jesus Christ—arrived, underscoring its subordinate role to the Abrahamic promise of faith-based righteousness, with its delivery mediated through angels to Moses highlighting its intermediary nature rather than direct divine covenant like the promise to Abraham.
