Galatians 5:23

King James Version (1769)

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat 'against such there is no law' as a license for antinomianism or unrestrained behavior, overlooking that these virtues are Spirit-empowered fruits that exceed legal requirements; meekness is wrongly seen as weakness or passivity instead of controlled power, and temperance narrowly as mere moderation in food or drink rather than comprehensive self-mastery, disconnecting the passage from its context of contrasting works of the flesh with transformative Holy Spirit fruit.

Truth

This verse concludes the list of the fruit of the Spirit by naming meekness, or humble strength under God's control, and temperance, or self-discipline across all aspects of life, affirming that such godly qualities produced in believers by the Holy Spirit are inherently righteous and uncondemnable, as no law stands against them, emphasizing freedom in Christ where Spirit-led living naturally fulfills the law's true intent without legalistic bondage.
