Genesis 15:1

King James Version (1769)

1 After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat this as a blanket prosperity formula guaranteeing material wealth and total immunity from harm for any believer who claims it, ignoring its specific context in God's covenant with Abram amid his childlessness and vulnerability; others reduce the 'shield' to physical safety alone or the 'reward' to earned wages by human effort, overlooking the gracious, unmerited nature of God's provision that unfolds through trials and points to ultimate spiritual inheritance.

Truth

God directly addresses Abram's fears in a vision, offering profound reassurance by declaring Himself as Abram's protective shield and an exceedingly great reward, underscoring divine faithfulness, personal protection, and the promise of abundant blessings rooted in their covenant relationship, which anticipates the fulfillment of God's promises through Abram's descendants.
