Genesis 1:21

King James Version (1769)

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often reduce 'great whales' to modern cetaceans alone, ignoring the Hebrew 'tanninim' denoting massive sea monsters or large aquatic beings of various sorts; others erroneously claim the waters autonomously 'brought forth' life, suggesting pre-Darwinian evolution without God's direct creative act, whereas the text attributes origination to Him; additionally, some wield the passage as pseudoscience against empirical biology, missing its theological focus on divine goodness, kind-specific reproduction, and poetic framework rather than literal chronology or mechanism.

Truth

On the fifth day of creation, God forms the teeming life of the seas, including great sea creatures and every kind of swimming animal, as well as every winged bird, each reproducing after its own kind, filling the waters and skies abundantly; He declares it good, underscoring His sovereign power, purposeful diversity in design, and approval of the harmony and vitality He imparts to aquatic and avian realms as integral to His ordered cosmos.
