Genesis 49:10

King James Version (1769)

10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat 'Shiloh' merely as a geographic location in Israel rather than a messianic title meaning 'peace-bringer' or 'he whose it is,' overlooking its prophetic fulfillment in Christ; others apply it exclusively to historical Judahite kings like David without recognizing the ultimate eschatological king, or dismiss it as outdated since the scepter appeared to depart with the Babylonian exile and Roman rule, ignoring the spiritual continuity through Jesus' eternal kingship.

Truth

In Jacob's prophetic blessing to his son Judah, this passage foretells the enduring royal authority and leadership of the tribe of Judah, symbolized by the scepter and lawgiver, which will persist until the coming of Shiloh—a messianic figure to whom the obedience of the nations will be gathered—establishing Judah's line as the source of Israel's kings culminating in the eternal King, Jesus Christ.
