Hebrews 2:18

King James Version (1769)

18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often wrongly assume Jesus sinned during His temptations since He was tempted like us, thus disqualifying His perfection as Savior; in truth, He resisted fully, enabling His aid. Another error reduces His succor to mere emotional sympathy without divine power, ignoring His authoritative ability to deliver victory, or limits it to identical temptations, overlooking His comprehensive empathy for all human weakness.

Truth

This passage reveals the core truth that Jesus Christ, having Himself suffered and been tempted in His humanity, is uniquely qualified and empathetic to provide aid—succor—to those facing temptation today. As our High Priest who experienced human frailty without succumbing to sin, He offers not distant pity but intimate, effective help drawn from His own victorious trials, assuring believers of divine support in their struggles.
