I Chronicles 17:10

King James Version (1769)

10 And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house.
Untruth

This passage is often misinterpreted as a personal prosperity guarantee for believers today to conquer all enemies and build lasting empires through their own ambition, or as solely referring to the physical temple Solomon would construct, overlooking the primary emphasis on God's establishment of David's perpetual lineage despite Israel's future sins and exiles, or as an unconditional promise of uninterrupted earthly success without dependence on covenant faithfulness.

Truth

God promises King David through the prophet Nathan that He will subdue all of David's enemies and build him a house, meaning an enduring royal dynasty rather than David building a temple for God, establishing the Davidic covenant which assures Israel's security under God's protection and foreshadows the eternal kingdom of the Messiah from David's line, highlighting God's gracious initiative in reversing human plans to fulfill His redemptive purposes.
