I Chronicles 22:5

King James Version (1769)

5 And David said, Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be builded for the Lord must be exceeding magnifical, of fame and of glory throughout all countries: I will therefore now make preparation for it. So David prepared abundantly before his death.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray David as driven by personal pride or nationalistic vanity in mandating the temple's splendor, ignoring its explicit purpose to magnify the Lord rather than human achievement; others wrongly assume Solomon's 'young and tender' state disqualifies him entirely, overlooking God's sovereign choice and David's supportive role, or apply it legalistically to justify lavish modern church buildings without prioritizing spiritual devotion, humility, and scriptural context of David's preparatory limitations due to his warrior life.

Truth

In this passage, David recognizes his son Solomon's youth and inexperience while emphasizing the temple's need to be extraordinarily magnificent, renowned throughout nations, to honor God's glory befitting His name; thus, David proactively gathers vast resources before his death, exemplifying faithful stewardship, sacrificial preparation, and intergenerational legacy-building in obedience to God's command, ensuring the project surpasses mere functionality to inspire awe and testify to divine greatness.
