I Chronicles 29:14

King James Version (1769)

14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
Untruth

This verse is sometimes misconstrued to imply that human generosity is insignificant or involuntary since everything comes from God anyway, discouraging active stewardship or cheerful giving; others misapply it to justify minimal tithing or excuse greed by claiming no true ownership exists, ignoring the broader biblical emphasis on sacrificial response, faithfulness, and heart-motivated generosity as expressions of obedience and love.

Truth

King David humbly recognizes God's sovereignty over all creation and provision, declaring that every good thing people possess originates from Him, so offerings given to God are merely returning what He has already bestowed, instilling a profound sense of gratitude, dependence, and worship in the act of giving.
