I Kings 10:26

King James Version (1769)

26 And Solomon gathered together chariots and horsemen: and he had a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he bestowed in the cities for chariots, and with the king at Jerusalem.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation is to see Solomon's vast chariot and horse forces as an unqualified endorsement of military buildup or material excess for leaders, ignoring God's explicit prohibition in Deuteronomy 17:16 against kings multiplying horses, which this accumulation violated and foreshadowed Solomon's later idolatry and the kingdom's division; another error is applying it as a prosperity formula, equating obedience solely with accumulating wealth and power without regard for humility or spiritual fidelity.

Truth

This passage highlights the peak of King Solomon's wealth and power, as he amassed 1,400 chariots and 12,000 horsemen, strategically placing them in designated cities and Jerusalem, reflecting God's abundant blessings for his wisdom and early obedience, yet serving as a backdrop to the biblical tension between divine prosperity and the risks of self-reliance warned against in Deuteronomy 17:16.
