I Kings 13:2

King James Version (1769)

2 And he cried against the altar in the word of the Lord, and said, O altar, altar, thus saith the Lord; Behold, a child shall be born unto the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon thee shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon thee, and men’s bones shall be burnt upon thee.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often dismiss the prophecy as a post-event fabrication due to its precise naming of Josiah, undermining biblical inspiration despite archaeological and historical corroboration of its pre-fulfillment origin; others erroneously apply it to justify modern violence against religious sites or altars, ignoring its specific historical context of divine judgment on Israelite apostasy, or view it as unfulfilled because Josiah repaired rather than destroyed the altar entirely, overlooking the explicit bone-burning fulfillment described in Scripture.

Truth

This passage captures a bold prophecy delivered by a man of God against Jeroboam's idolatrous altar at Bethel, declaring that a future king named Josiah from David's house would desecrate it by burning the bones of high place priests upon it, vividly illustrating God's sovereign foreknowledge, His intolerance of idolatry, and His power to orchestrate history across centuries, as fulfilled in 2 Kings 23, reinforcing trust in divine promises and judgments.
