I Kings 21:18

King James Version (1769)

18 Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, which is in Samaria: behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, whither he is gone down to possess it.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often overlook the context of Ahab's grave sins, portraying the event as a simple property dispute or legitimate royal acquisition, thus excusing greed and injustice; others might see it as endorsing forceful seizure of land by authorities, ignoring the prophetic condemnation of bloodshed and the principle that God's law prohibits such wickedness, or apply it selectively to justify modern eminent domain without ethical boundaries, distorting the passage's warning against unrighteous power.

Truth

God commands the prophet Elijah to confront King Ahab directly at Naboth's vineyard, where Ahab has gone to claim the property he coveted after arranging Naboth's execution through false accusations. The core truth emphasizes divine justice prevailing over royal power, illustrating that no one, not even a king, can escape accountability for sins like murder and covetousness, and that God actively sends prophets to declare judgment and call for repentance.
