I Kings 8:54

King James Version (1769)

54 And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the Lord, he arose from before the altar of the Lord, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat Solomon's kneeling posture with raised hands as a rigid formula or mandatory physical requirement for all effective prayer, promoting legalism over the heart's attitude; others might assume the prayer's end implies immediate divine approval or fulfillment, ignoring the prayer's conditional elements tied to Israel's obedience, or view it as endorsing elaborate rituals detached from genuine repentance and covenant relationship with God.

Truth

This verse marks the conclusion of Solomon's lengthy dedicatory prayer for the temple, where he rises from kneeling on his knees before the altar with hands spread toward heaven, exemplifying profound humility, reverence, and wholehearted dependence on God during a pivotal moment of national worship and intercession for Israel's future faithfulness and forgiveness.
