I Kings 9:4

King James Version (1769)

4 And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation treats this as an unconditional guarantee of prosperity or success for any outward obedience, akin to prosperity gospel teachings, overlooking the vital emphasis on inner 'integrity of heart' which demands authentic devotion over mechanical rule-keeping; another error assumes it overrides David's unconditional covenant, ignoring the explicit 'if' that makes blessings contingent on personal fidelity, leading to disillusionment when trials arise despite inconsistent obedience.

Truth

God promises Solomon enduring favor and a lasting throne if he emulates David's integrity of heart and uprightness by fully obeying His statutes and judgments, highlighting the conditional nature of divine blessing rooted in genuine, wholehearted faithfulness rather than partial or ritualistic compliance.
