I Samuel 10:11

King James Version (1769)

11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?
Untruth

A common misinterpretation is to assume Saul's prophesying proves he was inherently spiritual or guaranteed lifelong faithfulness, ignoring his later rebellion and rejection by God; others might read the people's question as sarcastic mockery without recognizing it as genuine shock at God's unexpected intervention, or extrapolate it to mean anyone prophesying is divinely approved, disregarding biblical criteria for true prophecy like alignment with God's word and fruitfulness.

Truth

This verse captures the astonishment of those who knew Saul as an ordinary Benjamite, the son of Kish, when they witnessed him prophesying alongside the prophets, highlighting the transformative power of God's Spirit upon Saul after his anointing by Samuel, which served as a public sign of his divine appointment as Israel's first king and demonstrated God's ability to equip and elevate the unlikely for His sovereign purposes.
