I Timothy 3:15

King James Version (1769)

15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often reduce the church to a physical building rather than the living community of believers, or claim it as the infallible source of truth overriding Scripture, as some traditions assert ecclesiastical authority defines doctrine; others misuse it to elevate one denomination above others, ignoring the verse's focus on the universal church's role in upholding apostolic truth without institutional supremacy.

Truth

Paul writes to Timothy to guide his conduct in the church, portraying it as the house of God and the pillar and ground of the truth, emphasizing that the church—comprising believers united in faith—serves as the steadfast supporter and proclaimer of God's revealed truth in a world of deception, ensuring doctrinal integrity and godly behavior through scriptural teaching and communal life.
