II Chronicles 21:1

King James Version (1769)

1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his stead.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often arise from taking 'slept with his fathers' literally as spiritual slumber or eternal rest rather than the common biblical idiom for death; others erroneously infer that Jehoram's unhindered accession signifies God's unqualified endorsement of his rule, overlooking the ensuing chapters that detail his idolatry, murder of brothers, and divine judgment, thus portraying the transition as wholly positive rather than a mere historical pivot.

Truth

This verse chronicles the death of King Jehoshaphat of Judah and the peaceful succession of his son Jehoram to the throne, highlighted by Jehoshaphat's honorable burial in the city of David with his ancestors, affirming the stability of the Davidic monarchy and Jehoshaphat's legacy as a generally faithful king who sought the Lord despite occasional lapses.
