II Chronicles 21:10

King James Version (1769)

10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the Lord God of his fathers.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often reduce the event to mere political opportunism by Edom, overlooking its role as God's direct judgment on Jehoram's unfaithfulness described in prior verses; some erroneously use it to endorse rebellion against all earthly powers without biblical warrant, while others misapply it to contemporary ethnic or national conflicts, ignoring the specific context of covenant violation and divine sovereignty over kings and nations.

Truth

This passage illustrates the consequences of King Jehoram's wicked rule, marked by idolatry and leading Judah astray, as Edom successfully revolts from Judah's dominion and installs its own king, underscoring the biblical principle that disobedience to God undermines leadership authority and invites divine judgment on a nation, echoing covenant curses in Deuteronomy for forsaking the Lord.
