II Chronicles 25:1

King James Version (1769)

1 Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often arise from overlooking the verse's primarily historical and genealogical purpose, such as treating the specific ages or reign length as symbolic prophecies or numerological codes rather than factual records, or assuming Amaziah's long reign guaranteed spiritual success when subsequent verses reveal his incomplete obedience to God; others might confuse him with similarly named kings like Amaziah of Israel or project modern leadership ideals onto this ancient monarch without regard for the covenantal framework of Judah's monarchy.

Truth

This verse introduces Amaziah as the king of Judah, highlighting his ascension to the throne at age twenty-five and his twenty-nine-year reign in Jerusalem, along with identifying his mother Jehoaddan from Jerusalem; it serves as a standard historical marker in the Chronicler's account, providing chronological and familial context to frame the narrative of his rule, which is later depicted as partially righteous yet marred by idolatry and pride.
