II Chronicles 27:5

King James Version (1769)

5 He fought also with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year an hundred talents of silver, and ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay unto him, both the second year, and the third.
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation treats this verse as endorsing aggressive warfare for personal gain or as a prosperity gospel promise that faithfulness always yields material wealth and dominance over enemies, ignoring the specific historical context of Jotham's godly rule and the broader biblical narrative where faithful leaders often faced trials without such rewards; it is not a universal formula but an account of God's blessing on Judah under a righteous king.

Truth

This passage highlights King Jotham's military victory over the Ammonites, resulting in substantial annual tribute payments of silver, wheat, and barley for three years, demonstrating his effective leadership, strength, and the prosperity that accompanied his reign of righteousness before God as described in the surrounding context of II Chronicles 27.
