II Chronicles 34:2

King James Version (1769)

2 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of David his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.
Untruth

A misinterpretation of this verse might portray Josiah as inherently sinless or achieving perfect righteousness through personal effort alone, ignoring the biblical emphasis on God's grace enabling obedience and the reality that even faithful leaders like David had flaws; another error is to take 'walked in the ways of David' as endorsing all of David's actions indiscriminately, including his sins, or to apply it out of context to justify unqualified support for any youthful leader or political figure without regard for their actual devotion to God's standards.

Truth

This passage highlights the early reign of King Josiah, who demonstrated genuine faithfulness to God by doing what was right in His sight, closely following the godly paths of his ancestor David, and completely avoiding the idolatry that had corrupted previous kings of Judah, thereby establishing a foundation of true worship and obedience that foreshadowed his later sweeping religious reforms.
