II Chronicles 35:7

King James Version (1769)

7 And Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks: these were of the king’s substance.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often reduce Josiah's provision to mere ostentatious wealth display or political populism, overlooking its deep roots in covenant obedience and restoration of Mosaic worship neglected for generations. Some erroneously project this onto contemporary prosperity teachings, suggesting leaders must personally bankroll church events, or literalize it as a model for free communal feasts today, ignoring the unique historical-theocratic context, Josiah's reforms against idolatry, and the symbolic redemption in Passover sacrifices rather than generic charity.

Truth

King Josiah exemplifies godly leadership and generosity by supplying from his personal resources 30,000 Passover lambs and kids along with 3,000 bullocks for the entire population of Judah, Israel, Jerusalem, and visitors, enabling one of the grandest Passovers since Samuel's era. This act highlights his commitment to spiritual revival, covenant renewal, and removing barriers to worship, reflecting a king's responsibility to shepherd his people toward faithfulness to God amid national reforms.
