II Chronicles 6:33

King James Version (1769)

33 Then hear thou from the heavens, even from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often narrow this verse to suggest God only hears prayers offered at the physical temple site, overlooking its principle of divine responsiveness to outsiders anywhere; others assume it promises automatic fulfillment of any stranger's requests regardless of content or motive, ignoring the need for alignment with God's will; some falsely claim it restricts God's favor exclusively to Israelites, contradicting the explicit call for all nations to know and fear Him.

Truth

In Solomon's prayer dedicating the temple, he petitions God to hear and answer the prayers of foreigners who approach the temple, so that all peoples of the earth may recognize God's name, revere Him as Israel does, and acknowledge the temple as His dwelling. This reveals God's expansive mercy, extending beyond Israel to invite sincere seekers from every nation into relationship with Him, foreshadowing the universal scope of His salvation.
