II Corinthians 5:2

King James Version (1769)

2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
Untruth

A common misinterpretation views this groaning solely as a complaint about physical suffering or earthly hardships without recognizing the eschatological hope of bodily resurrection; others erroneously interpret it as promoting an immediate disembodied afterlife upon death, neglecting the 'clothed upon' imagery of transformation at Christ's return, or as endorsing Gnostic dualism that despises the physical body rather than affirming its future renewal.

Truth

In this verse, Paul conveys the deep yearning of believers for their heavenly, imperishable bodies, groaning under the burdens of their temporary earthly existence described earlier as a tent. This longing reflects the Christian hope of resurrection and glorification, where the mortal is swallowed up by immortality from heaven, emphasizing not a disdain for the body but an anticipation of its redemption and eternal perfection in Christ's likeness.
