II Corinthians 8:1

King James Version (1769)

1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
Untruth

Misinterpretations of this passage often include viewing the grace of God as a promise of financial prosperity for generous giving, fueling prosperity gospel distortions that ignore the Macedonians' poverty; others mistakenly use it to impose mandatory tithing or high giving quotas as a legalistic duty, overlooking the voluntary and grace-motivated nature of their response amid affliction; or reducing it to mere historical reporting without applying its principle that true liberality stems from experiencing God's grace, not human compulsion.

Truth

Paul informs the Corinthians about the grace of God abundantly given to the Macedonian churches, which enabled them to give generously to the collection for needy believers in Jerusalem despite their own severe trials and extreme poverty, highlighting that God's grace empowers joyful and sacrificial generosity as an overflow of spiritual abundance rather than material wealth.
