II Corinthians 9:1

King James Version (1769)

1 For as touching the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:
Untruth

Misinterpretations often arise from taking the verse out of context, such as assuming Paul is dismissing the need for giving altogether because it's 'superfluous' to write, implying awareness alone fulfills obligation without action; in reality, this sets up his affirmation of their readiness while urging completion. Another error is viewing it as criticism of their past inaction, whereas it actually praises their prior enthusiasm shown in pledges from chapter 8, emphasizing proactive generosity rather than reluctance.

Truth

Paul conveys confidence in the Corinthian church's established awareness and willingness to contribute to the collection for the needy saints in Jerusalem, stating that further writing on the topic is superfluous, thereby highlighting their maturity in this ministry and transitioning to practical encouragement for follow-through in chapters 8 and 9.
