II Kings 10:30

King James Version (1769)

30 And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation is viewing this as blanket approval of Jehu's zeal or violence as inherently righteous, ignoring that his actions were limited to God's specific mandate against Ahab's house and that Jehu later failed to fully eradicate idolatry by not destroying the golden calves, leading to the dynasty's brevity; others wrongly use it to justify personal vengeance or political ambition as 'God's will,' overlooking the context of prophetic instruction and divine initiative, or assume it promises endless success for partial obedience, when Scripture shows Jehu's reward was measured and conditional on alignment with God's heart.

Truth

God commends Jehu for faithfully executing His judgment against the idolatrous house of Ahab, affirming that Jehu acted according to divine will by destroying Ahab's descendants and allies, and in response, promises that Jehu's lineage will rule Israel for four generations, highlighting the principle that God rewards obedience to His specific commands, even those involving righteous judgment, while establishing a temporary dynasty as a testament to His sovereignty over kings and nations.
