II Kings 11:2

King James Version (1769)

2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king’s sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray Jehosheba's 'stealing' of Joash as endorsing deceit or child abduction in general, stripping away the desperate context of genocide against the royal heirs to secure Athaliah's illegitimate rule; others dismiss it as mere historical trivia without recognizing its theological weight in demonstrating divine faithfulness to covenant promises, or wrongly apply it to justify vigilante actions outside biblical justice frameworks.

Truth

This passage reveals God's providential preservation of the Davidic royal line amid Athaliah's murderous coup, as Jehosheba, a princess with access to the palace, boldly rescues infant Joash from execution by hiding him in the temple bedchamber with his nurse, ensuring the continuation of David's lineage and the eventual fulfillment of messianic promises despite overwhelming evil.
