II Thessalonians 3:1

King James Version (1769)

1 Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation treats this verse as a generic call for prayer focused on personal safety or ministerial success for leaders, neglecting its precise emphasis on the unrestricted dissemination and glorification of the gospel itself; others erroneously apply it to demand immediate church growth or revival as a sign of faithful prayer, disregarding biblical precedents of persecution delaying progress, or twist it into a prosperity formula where divine favor guarantees unimpeded expansion without trials.

Truth

Paul concludes his letter by earnestly requesting the prayers of the Thessalonian believers for himself and his companions, emphasizing intercession that the gospel message would spread rapidly and freely without hindrance, and be honored and glorified among people, just as it had been effectively received in Thessalonica; this underscores the vital role of collective prayer in propelling God's word forward amid opposition and the communal responsibility to support gospel ministry.
