Isaiah 47:13

King James Version (1769)

13 Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
Untruth

Common misinterpretations include viewing the passage as a blanket condemnation of all astronomy or science, reducing it to mere anti-intellectualism rather than a specific rebuke of idolatrous divination; others erroneously apply it to endorse modern horoscopes as harmless entertainment, ignoring the context of Babylon's exploitative sorcery; or take it out of its prophetic judgment oracle against Babylon, using it superficially to dismiss any strategic planning without recognizing the critique targets self-reliant pride over false gods, not legitimate wisdom-seeking.

Truth

Isaiah 47:13 delivers a divine taunt against Babylon's overreliance on human wisdom and occult practices like astrology and divination, which prove utterly powerless to avert God's impending judgment despite their exhaustive efforts; the core truth underscores the futility of trusting in worldly counselors or pagan rituals for deliverance, emphasizing instead that only the sovereign God controls destinies and brings justice upon arrogant nations that defy Him.
