Isaiah 48:14

King James Version (1769)

14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The Lord hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation views 'him' whom the Lord loves as Israel or the Messiah rather than Cyrus the Persian king, whom God raised up as an instrument of judgment against Babylon; this overlooks the historical context of chapters 47-48 foretelling Babylon's fall to Persia in 539 BC to free the Jews, leading some to erroneously apply it as a promise of Israel's invincibility or a future messianic triumph disconnected from God's use of pagan rulers to accomplish His purposes.

Truth

Isaiah 48:14 proclaims God's sovereign control over history and nations, summoning all to witness His unerring predictions fulfilled through Cyrus, whom He loves and empowers to execute divine judgment by conquering Babylon and subduing the Chaldeans, thereby demonstrating His unmatched power and faithfulness in delivering Israel from exile as part of His redemptive plan.
