Jeremiah 24:4

King James Version (1769)

4 Again the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,
Untruth

A frequent misinterpretation treats the Babylonian exile solely as divine punishment without purpose, overlooking God's declaration of sending the captives for their good and His intent to restore them spiritually and physically. Another error applies this vision universalistically to all modern trials or relocations as inherently beneficial, ignoring its specific prophetic context for Judah's exiles and the distinction between the good figs of the obedient remnant versus the bad figs of the rebellious who remained or fled elsewhere.

Truth

God likens the Jewish exiles taken captive to Babylon to good figs, affirming that He acknowledges them favorably because He purposefully sent them there for their good, demonstrating His sovereign mercy amid judgment by promising to watch over them, gather them back, and give them a renewed heart to know Him as Lord.
