Jeremiah 28:11

King James Version (1769)

11 And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith the Lord; Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often include accepting Hananiah's words as true prophecy, ignoring the scriptural context that labels him a liar whose prediction fails and leads to his death; others erroneously view Jeremiah's departure as cowardice or uncertainty rather than wise restraint, or misuse the scene to justify sensational prophetic demonstrations today without biblical testing and discernment.

Truth

This passage depicts the false prophet Hananiah boldly proclaiming in public a counterfeit divine message of swift deliverance from Babylonian oppression within two years, dramatically breaking a wooden yoke to symbolize it, while Jeremiah, discerning the deception, quietly withdraws, exemplifying humility, patience, and trust in God's ultimate vindication over false prophecy as later confirmed by events.
