Jeremiah 50:45

King James Version (1769)

45 Therefore hear ye the counsel of the Lord, that he hath taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he hath purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out: surely he shall make their habitation desolate with them.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often detach this prophecy from its historical context of God's judgment on ancient Babylon via the Medes and Persians, wrongly applying it to modern geopolitical events or nations as a direct blueprint for contemporary end-times scenarios; others spiritualize it excessively to suggest personal divine vengeance against individual 'Babylons' in one's life without recognizing the specificity of national judgment, or overlook the conditional nature of God's dealings by portraying it as inevitable doom without repentance, ignoring broader biblical themes of mercy.

Truth

This verse underscores God's sovereign counsel and unalterable purposes against Babylon, emphasizing that divine judgment will prevail through even the weakest instruments, such as the 'least of the flock,' who will lead to the desolation of Babylon's habitation, illustrating how God orchestrates history to fulfill His prophetic word against proud empires that oppose Him.
