Jeremiah 5:6

King James Version (1769)

6 Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often treat the beasts literally as actual animals sent to attack individuals, overlooking their metaphorical representation of foreign armies like the Babylonians executing God's judgment on national sin; others apply it indiscriminately to personal modern failings without historical context, fostering fear or fatalism, or misuse it to endorse vengeance, ignoring Jeremiah's broader themes of God's justice tempered by mercy and repeated calls to return to Him.

Truth

This passage warns of divine judgment on Judah for their numerous transgressions and escalating backslidings, portrayed through vivid imagery of wild beasts—a lion from the forest, a wolf at dusk, and a watchful leopard—symbolizing ruthless enemy invaders who will ravage the land and destroy its people, underscoring the inevitable consequences of persistent rebellion against God's covenant and the need for repentance to avert such calamity.
