Misinterpretations often view this as an immediate apocalyptic end to the physical world or final judgment day rather than the spiritual defeat of Satan's authority through the cross; others assume Satan is utterly annihilated at that moment instead of progressively dethroned, or isolate it to future end-times events overlooking its primary fulfillment in Christ's first coming.

Jesus declares that his crucifixion marks the decisive judgment of the world's sinful system under Satan's dominion, the 'prince of this world,' who will be cast out through Christ's sacrificial death, exaltation, and the drawing of believers to him, inaugurating victory over evil and the possibility of salvation for all who look to the Son.
