John 2:19

King James Version (1769)

19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Untruth

A common misinterpretation, as held by the Jews at the time and later skeptics, takes Jesus' words literally to mean he claimed to physically rebuild the Jerusalem temple in three days, ignoring the Gospel's clarification that he spoke of his body and leading to accusations of blasphemy or false prophecy since the temple took 46 years to build and was not rebuilt by him in that timeframe.

Truth

Jesus prophetically foretells his crucifixion and resurrection, using the temple as a metaphor for his own body; when destroyed by death, he would raise it in three days, demonstrating his divine authority over life and death and fulfilling the ultimate sign of his messiahship that the religious leaders demanded after he cleansed the temple.
