John 5:24

King James Version (1769)

24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Untruth

Misinterpretations often portray this passage as promoting salvation through mere intellectual hearing or outward obedience as human achievement, diminishing the necessity of heartfelt belief; others delay eternal life to a posthumous reward, overlooking its present possession; some twist it into a conditional guarantee revocable by future failings, eroding the certainty of no condemnation; or universalize it to casual exposure without personal faith, ignoring the relational commitment required.

Truth

Jesus declares that true faith—characterized by hearing His word and believing in God the Father who sent Him—grants immediate eternal life to the believer, freeing them from condemnation and transferring them from spiritual death to vibrant life in the present, emphasizing salvation as a gift received through trust rather than works, offering profound assurance of God's unbreakable promise.
